Code Enforcement

What is Code Enforcement?

Code enforcement is the act of enforcing a written set of rules, principles, or laws. Code enforcement cases can include public health and safety, business activities, building standards, land-use standards, and other municipal affairs.

How Does the City Handle Code Enforcement?

The City of Woodland employs a part time, complaint-driven Code Enforcement Officer. Complaints typically result in an inspection to determine if there is a code violation. If a violation is found, a postcard of the cited violation is mailed to the property owner. This is followed by a courtesy letter if action to correct the violation has not been taken in a timely manner. Official abatement proceedings take place if the violator still has not taken care of the problem within a specified period of time.

What is the Goal of the Code Enforcement Officer?

Our goal is to eliminate nuisances for both residential and commercial properties while taking the circumstances of the person creating the nuisance into consideration. Maintaining civilized relationships is of utmost importance to us.

If you file a complaint, please make sure your name, address, and phone number are included in your submission. This is essential to a successful investigation. Anonymous complaints may be investigated if reported in detail.
