Welcome to the emergency Information Page. Here you will find all the information you need to know regarding the emergency management plan and how to get signed up to receive emergency notifications.  The Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office Department of Emergency Management (DEM) coordinates and facilitates emergency management activities for Woodland, Longview, Kelso, Kalama, and Castle Rock. They continue to develop plans and procedures for major emergencies such as natural disasters and hazardous material incidents. The DEM also coordinates training with local agencies and organizations, so that when an emergency situation occurs they are ready to respond. City of Woodland in unique in the fact that it lands in two different counties, Cowlitz County and Clark County. There are links below for both Cowlitz County and Clark County Emergency Alert Notifications systems with instructions on how to get signed up to receive these notifications.  

Here are some way that you can prepare for an emergency situation:

  • Make a Plan
    • Be aware of what kind of hazards can occur around you
    • Identify 2 to 3 meeting spots in case your family gets separated
    • Include a shelter in place plan or an evacuation plan 
  • Build a 3 Day Survival Kit
    • Include necessary medication, dry food, water, battery-powered radio and flash lights, first aid kit, and matches
    • Good foods to include are protein bars, granola bars, beef jerky, canned goods and vacuum packed foods
    • Make sure to check your emergency food kit often and replace expired items
    • Need at least 1 gallon of water per person a day
  • Get Involved
    • Take a CPR and basic first aid course
    • Volunteer with a local Red Cross
    • Sign up for emergency training courses
