City of Woodland - 2024-25 Periodic Comp Plan Update
The Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA) requires cities to have a 20-year planning horizon. Woodland's plan was last updated in 2015 and is due for a major review known as a "Periodic Update". The city has reviewed 8 applications for comprehensive plan updates in 2018 and 2019 but only made minor changes at that time. In 2023, the city started what it called a minor revision effort to explore the possibility of expanding its urban growth area and to master plan the Woodland Bottoms. While that process did result in an inter-local agreement with Cowlitz County to engage in a sub-area plan of the Woodland Bottoms, those efforts have had to be suspended while the city completes its periodic update.
Public Participation - One of the primary goals of the GMA is to ensure that citizens are engaged early and often in the planning process. The Woodland City Council adopted a Public Participation Plan (PPP) at their February 20th, 2024 council meeting and that plan is the foundation for engagement of the community.
Participation Opportunities - The city will be scheduling open houses and speaking engagements wherever it can. To date, those opportunities include:
- April 1st, 2024 - City Council Workshop (7 PM in Council Chambers)
- April 9th, 2024 - Chamber of Commerce (Lunch at the Oak Tree)
- April 18th, 2024 - Chamber of Commerce (After Hours event at the library)
- (If you would like staff to meet with your church group, organization, or homeowners association, please contact Travis Goddard)
