Park Donations

At the May 15th City Council Meeting, it was discussed and there was consensus to request park donations. The City of Woodland has implemented a temporary park donation request for usage of Horseshoe Lake Park. This request is geared toward non-city residents in an effort to help with increased costs. City of Woodland residents are not required to pay a donation.

The money collected will be used to support the park fund that consists of public works employee after hours labor, trash collection, graffiti cleanup, vandalism repairs, cleaning of restrooms, portable toilets, lake testing, park projects and daily park maintenance. The daily suggested donation is $5.

The $5 is on the honor system and intended for an entire family, not per individual. There is currently no enforcement mechanism and the donation should not be paid if attending a permitted event such as Movies in the Park, Woodland Planters Day, Farmers Market, Fishing Derby, Easter Egg Hunt, or any other permitted functions. Also, those renting facilities on a private basis, along with their guests, will be exempt as they have already paid for a permitted facility rental.

Each year Horseshoe Lake is visited by thousands of people. We are asking for this donation because of the large influx of usage from non-local residents who do not pay taxes towards the upkeep of the park. A recent review of data showed that more than 70% of users were coming from outside the city limits.  As donations are made we are also collecting data to be shared with city council so additional decisions can be made.
