Shoreline Master Program

Periodic Review Project

The City of Woodland’s Shoreline Master Program was adopted and became effective on August 26, 2016. The most recent version (posted here) is effective June 1, 2021. The SMP affects those properties in the shoreline as well as property within the floodway of the Lewis River.

It is important to note that the restrictions of the new SMP apply to new construction/development only. Nothing in the new SMP will cause any existing homes, existing structures, or existing uses to have to cease. Any changes and/or modifications to these existing uses must follow all regulations under the new SMP.

FLOODWAY RESTRICTIONS - No new development of any kind (including but not limited to gardens, play equipment, patios, fire pits, lawns, etc.) will be allowed in the floodway area. The floodway is the channel of the Lewis River and the adjacent land areas that must be reserved in order to discharge the base flood without cumulatively increasing the water surface elevation more than designated height. Again, existing uses occurring in the floodway area will be allowed to remain, and must follow all requirements for maintenance and modification in the new SMP. Please see the attached documents below.
